Policy studies provides understanding of complex emerging issues through innovative modeling and data. Topics include renewable integration, environmental regulations, gas/electric interface and planning and research development.
Environmental regulation can have profound impacts of power system planning and performance. MISO, since its beginning, has sought to understand the impacts of these changes and to act as an independent source of insight on the changes which may results from the implementation of new rules.

2015 CSAPR Update Study:
In the beginning the level of renewable resources in the MISO footprint was nearly non-existent, but since 2005 renewable resources have grown at a rate of about 1.5GW per year. The growth of historically wind, and the increasing growth of solar has presented many challenges that MISO has proactively studied to best understand the impacts of.
The growing and changing use of natural gas in MISO has raised new questions on the performance and reliability of the gas/electric interface. MISO has been collaboratively engaging in discussion and study since 2011 to understand the risks and proactively engage in any needed changes.
In addition to macro trends MISO continues to investigate (Energy Planning, Renewable Integration, Environmental Regulation, Gas/Electric), MISO provides insight into a range of other topics of relevance.
